Tween Crafts this Friday!

Tween Sea Crafts
Friday, July 30th
3pm - 4pm
Lower Level Program Room
Kids in grades 5 & 6 are invited to come for an afternoon of sea crafts including:
  • Flip-Flop T-Shirts
  • Sand Art
  • Painted Rocks & Seashells
  • Sea Charm Keyrings

No registration is required but Tweens must be registered for the summer reading program.

Tween Activity this Friday!


Tweens, don't miss our Friday afternoon activity, Pirates & Pixels, taking place this Friday, July 23rd at 3pm!
Kids going into grades 5 and 6 in September are invited to come use the library laptop computers to explore pirate-themed web sites:
  • Create a pirate name using a name generator

  • Take the pirate personality test!

  • Search for pirate-themed books

  • Print and make a pirate craft

  • Participate in pirate games and win prizes!

No registration is necessary however Tween must be signed up for the children's summer reading program. For more information contact the Children's Desk at 401-847-8720 ext. 204. This activity will take place in the Lower-Level Program Room.

Tween Book Discussion

Next Friday, July 16th at 3pm, Tweens are invited to join us for an informal book discussion and activities related to the first annual Youth Reading Across Rhode Island book, Regarding the Fountain by Kate Klise. Book discussion will take place in the Children's Program Room and around the fountain in the Children's Department.

Copies of Regarding the Fountain are available at the Children's Desk. No registration is required for the Friday afternoon activity however Tweens must be registered for the Children's Summer Reading Program, Make a Splash! to attend. To register for summer reading, call the library, visit the Children's Desk or go online.

In Regarding the Fountain, the Dry Creek Middle School drinking fountain has sprung a leak, so principal Walter Russ dashes off a request to Flowing Waters Fountains, Etc.

Soon the fountain project takes on a life of its own, one chronicled in letters, postcards, memos, transcripts, and official documents. The school board president is up in arms. So is Dee Eel, of the water-supply company. A scandal is brewing, and Mr. Sam N's fifth grade class is turning up a host of hilarious secrets buried deep beneath the fountain.

Tween Program FRIDAY!


Calling all Tweens!

This Friday, July 9th, kids going into grades 5 + 6 can come make a boat and see if it will float! Kids will design an assortment of boats in the John Clarke Children's Program Room and then head outside into the park to see if they will float. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, the fastest, the most buoyant and other categories.

No registration is required however tweens must be registered for the Children's Summer Reading Program, Make a Splash! Register by calling the library, visiting the children's desk or going online.
