Program Registration Now Open!

Registration is now open for some wonderful February programs!

Sign up for the Valentine Chocolate Party taking place on Tuesday, February 10th at 4:00pm.  Kids ages 6 - 12 are invited to come make a variety of Valentine crafts and enjoy hot chocolate and candy treats! 

Tweens, ages 8 - 12, are welcome to attend a Sweet Treats program on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00am.  Make candy apple creations and other fun sweet treats.

Kids ages 5-10 can sign up to celebrate the Chinese New Year with crafts on Thursday, February 19th at 2:30pm (school vacation week).  Make a variety of Chinese New Year crafts.

All library programs are free and all materials are provided.  To register for any or all of these programs, visit the Children's Desk or call 847-8720 ext. 204.

Colonial Clothing - Under the Petticoats

Celebrate Thanksgiving and peek under the petticoats with professional history interpreter Patricia Perry on Tuesday, November 19th @ 4:00pm!  Discover the toiletry habits, clothing styles, and personal hygiene of our colonial ancestors.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to be clothed in colonial garb!

Learn how colonial customs impacted our lives and traditions, and how they continue to impact us today.

No registration is required for this free program.  Held in the lower level program room.

School Vacation Week Activities

Looking for some fun things to do over school vacation?  Visit the library!

On Monday, April 15th @ 2:30pm Casey Farm will be bringing a chicken and several baby chicks to the library for a special presentation.  Find out all about the life cycle of birds and how chicks are hatched and raised on the farm!  No registration is required - just drop in.  Held in the lower level program room.

On Wednesday, April 17th @ 10:30am kids ages 9 - 12 will explore different style and media in an interactive, hands-on art class provided by KidzArt.  Registration IS required - if you want to come stop by the children's desk or call 401-847-8720 ext. 204.




On Saturday, April 20th @ 2:00pm kids ages 8+ are invited to an origami workshop.  Learn how to make origami flowers!  Registration IS required - sign up at the Children's Desk or call 401-847-8720 ext. 204.

Holiday Events

There are two exciting holiday events coming up that you don't want to miss!

On Saturday, December 15th at 10:30am, the Piccolini Players present "Circus in a Trunk."  Music, physical comedy, juggling, pantomime, acrobatics and poetic whimsy as well as contemporary and classic European style clowning. No registration is required for this free program, just drop-in.

On Thursday, December 20th @ 3:30pm come to Frosty's Magic Birthday Party!  Celebrate Frosty's birthday with magician Greg McAdams.  Magic, audience participation and lots of comedy.  No registration is required for this free program, just drop-in.

Native American Programs for Kids

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with two amazing programs!

This Saturday, November 17th at 11:00am, performer George Penedo will share his love for the Native American flute.  He will give a little background on the history and making of the flutes and will play several tunes for the audience to enjoy.

On Monday, November 19th at 3:30pm, learn about Native American culture, history and archaeology with independent researcher Amy Tibbetts.  Find out what the Pilgrims and Native Americans ate at the first Thanksgiving and much more.  This program will include items for children to see and touch.

Spooky Special Effects and Sci-Fi Fun

Looking for something fun to do for Halloween?

Join professional movie special effects creator and costume designer Alex Ezorsky-Lie of Awespark Productions for a spooky presentation on Thursday, October 25th @ 3:30pm.  See how the green screen works and how movie magic makes horror and science fiction scenes look real.  Find out how special effects are done and see some of his creepy costume creations.

No registration is required for this free program.  Ages 9 - 12.

Creating Halloween Candy

Don't miss Creating Halloween Candy on Wednesday, October 17th at 3:30pm.  Find out how Halloween candy is made with Jeff Greene from NECCO.  Discover the process, machines and people who made the sweets that could end up in treat bags this Halloween.  Savor some "inside knowledge" when enjoying Halloween candy this year. 

No registration is required for this free program held in the lower level program room.  Ages 4+.

Art for Kids

Every Friday from 3:30pm-5:00pm, the children's department will be offering open art sessions for kids ages 7 and up. No registration is required for these free classes presented by Salve Regina University student Danielle Derrica. Each week will be a different theme, from drawing a still life to watercolor to cartooning. Come once or come to all!

Open art sessions are held in the John Clarke Children's Program Room and run through March 11th.

Events @ the Library

We have a couple of events happening this Saturday at the library that you might want to know about!

First at 10am Airborne Jugglers, Joe Murray and Susan Kirby, will dazzle you with a high energy juggling show. Audience volunteers will find themselves in the middle of the action!

Then at 2:30pm, the Children's Department will be offering a matinée screening of Despicable Me. In Despicable Me, Gru, an evil villain, delights in all things wicked. Surrounded by an army of tireless yellow minions and armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential dad.
